A Word from Harmony Recovery’s Shane Hudson

Hello, everyone. I hope you all are having a great summer.

Yesterday, we held our Annual Alumni Picnic at Harmony Recovery. There is something very special and unique about our alumni at Harmony. In the 18 years that I have spent in the addiction treatment field, I have not experienced anything quite like it. While I have experienced folks getting together for Recovery Month celebrations and reconnecting with staff who helped them along the way, the alumni from Harmony getting together on campus is more than that.

The Alumni Picnic for our alumni is a celebration of a place that gave so much to them as they gave so much of themselves in return and saw the benefits after leaving. It is a celebration of a location in the mountains that allowed them time to breathe, focus inwardly, and find serenity. It is a celebration of humans connecting and seeing each other in ways that they had not felt seen prior to arriving on our campus. It is also a celebration of the staff who stuck by them when they were not quite sure if anything was going to change. But, change did happen; and the celebration of that growth is shared openly as part of the event each year.

In the last year, we saw a record number of patients and earned record profit as compared to each of the last 11 years at Harmony. To me, this means that we are doing something right up here in the Rocky Mountains to assist those who are looking for addiction health care that truly sees them. It also means that we are functioning in the right ways as a business so that we can continue offering our unique style of care for years to come. I hope to establish the right metrics and tracking system so that we can also show the number of people who are healing and what sustained healing means to them. You can feel it when you interact with our alumni, and I want our program to speak for itself through the outcomes that we help achieve in the lives of those we serve.

If you haven’t been out to an Alumni Picnic, you should consider coming next year. And bring your loved ones to share the space that meant so much to you. If you have been out, keep coming. We appreciate your support and are always excited to see you doing well in your recovery.
